Real World Use of The RVRC Pathfinder 18L
Let us start at the begining, packing. Due to the large compartment that is easily accessed via a quality zip, packing is fast and super easy. Large zip toggles, make zipping the bag open/closed really easy even with cold fingers or gloved fingers. Adjustments to the shoulder, chest and waist straps were straight forward, and worked well as intended, with no niggling, clips are solid and secure. The top stash pocket is, as always, super handy, again a good quality zip and easy to open and close. Side pockets for walking poles, water, etc are easy to access. The outer shell is water repellent enough to get the rain cover on if your caught in a suden downpour. It took me about 20 seconds to get the main cover on and another 20 to weave the toggle and fasten it under the mesh back support. Initial comfort is good, after extended walking comfort continues. After two hours of steady walking in the rain, the back was sweaty but that was because of the weather and wearing my full waterproof and midlayer gear with no chance to change my layers. After walking 40 minutes in dry conditions, I felt my back was well ventilated and fairly cool. The weight distribution is superb and a standout feature at this price and size point.
